Duquesne University Names Dean of Natural and Environmental Sciences President Charles J. Dougherty has named Dr. Philip Reeder as the new dean of Duquesne’s Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences effective Monday, July 1. He will succeed Dr. David Seybert, who, after serving as dean of the Bayer School since 2002, has decided to return to scholarship and teaching full-time. Continue reading

The Division of Student Life celebrated the 8th Annual DU Class Ring Blessing on Sunday, April 14. The blessing of class rings took place during Mass at 11 a.m. in the Duquesne University Chapel. Brunch followed in the Union Ballroom for students and their families.

At the weekend retreat in January, the Orientation Directors and Chairs developed the 2013 Orientation theme. The new theme is “Branch Out!” The team is very excited to begin developing the weeklong Orientation program based on their new theme. The Directors and Chairs held their annual “Launch Event” in February where they announced the new theme to their 200 Team Leaders. Planning for Orientation 2013 will continue through the summer until Orientation begins with Move-In Day on Tuesday, August 20 through Sunday, August 25.
As a student-run program, developed for students by students, Orientation at Duquesne is uniquely positioned to welcome the newest members of the University to the Duquesne family.

Gumberg Library invites the Duquesne community to Take Back the Forest! As a fun and interactive way to support responsible resource use and recycling, the library is partnering with SGA, Sigma Kappa, and Evergreen to create a recycled forest on the fourth floor of Gumberg. Starting Wednesday, April 17, and running through Tuesday, April 30, students can drop in and add to this growing paperscape with decorated items taken from books, magazines, newspapers and recycled paper. There will be a brief Earth Day celebration at 1pm on April 22, with snacks and a chance to WIN part of the decorated forest and other prizes.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has recognized Duquesne’s commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement for a seventh consecutive year. The University was named by the CNCS to its 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
In addition, it is the fourth consecutive year that Duquesne University received the recognition of Honor Roll with Distinction, a commendation that highlights exemplary programs and levels of student involvement. Duquesne is the only Pittsburgh school and one of just five Pennsylvania universities among the 113 institutions across the United States to receive this special recognition. Continue reading
Music Students Anna Kovalevska and Yuting Zhou, first-place winners at the U.S. International Duo Piano Competition.
The competition features participants from the United States, Russia, Taiwan, Korea, China, India and Canada in 11 different categories. Duo concert pianists submit performance videos that are reviewed by a three-judge panel of renowned music professors in order to qualify for the prestigious competition.
Kovalevska, a native of Kherson, Ukraine, and Zhou, a native of Guangzhou, China, placed first in the professional level at the competition.
U.S. News & World Report has named the Duquesne University School of Law among first-tier schools in its 2014 Best Graduate School Rankings. With a ranking at No. 144, this marks the first time in 10 years that the School of Law has been ranked in the top-tier. Continue reading

The Division of Student Life has many Graduate Assistant opportunities available for 2013-2014. These positions are for the academic year (9 months) and most positions provide remuneration of tuition and a stipend. To be eligible, candidates must have been accepted into a Graduate Degree program.
