At eight home games during the men’s basketball season for 2014-2015, the first 150 students with Duquesne ID were given a free t-shirt as part of the Basketball Shirt Series.
For each of the eight games, a different sponsor from within the University helped design and sponsor the shirts for that game. Therefore, there were eight unique designs for the games. Each shirt design incorporated the slogan “Put Em UP Dukes,” which was the rally cry for the season.
The sponsors were: The Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs/Career Services, Duquesne Programming Council (DPC), Sophomore/Junior Class Councils, DU CARES, the Office of Residence Life, the Division of Mission & Identity, the Annual Giving Office/Alumni Relations, and Senior Class Council. By attending each of the games, a student could collect the entire shirt series.
The program also brought 50 youth from Westwood Elementary School to the game on Saturday, Jan. 31. DU CARES, Mission & Identity and the Student Government Association joined forces to buy tickets, hot dogs and drinks for the elementary students.
The hope is to continue the program and sponsor more local middle and elementary schools to attend game days, and to create more opportunities to come together as a University to promote school spirit on the Bluff.
