Student Government Association Happenings

This semester, the Student Government Association hosted “Dinner with Father Hogan.” At the dinner, members of student government enjoyed a nice meal and discussed relevant issues pertaining to student life. It was a very enlightening session at which the members were all thrilled to hear of exciting new things coming to Duquesne, such as the new black box theater.

SGA also continued its bi-annual tradition, the “Tea Hour.” Tea Hours serve to benefit the students by assisting them in becoming more informed about the administration or facilities on campus. This semester, students were invited to attend a “Tea Hour” discussion with the new Provost, Dr. Timothy Austin. Here, students had an informative question and answer session with Dr. Austin about various academic topics. They also learned more about Dr. Austin, including some of his visions and initiatives for the campus.

Lastly, SGA plans to continue their “Discussion with the Deans” series under Vice President of Academic Affairs Zachary Hudak. Three events are planned this semester with Dean Glasgow of the School of Nursing, Dean Swindal of the College of Liberal Arts, and Dean McFarlin of the School of Business. These meetings provide students in specific schools of study the opportunity to bring questions or comments to their deans in a friendly, informal setting. They serve to maintain the line of communication between students and the administration of the schools and the SGA is happy to continue to provide this program.
