Who Says Career Services is All Work and No Play?

November was National Career Development Month. This was an opportunity to increase public awareness about the importance of lifelong career development and making informed education and career decisions. Throughout the month, career development professionals were encouraged to celebrate with career activities and events.

Duquesne Career Services partnered with the Freshmen and Sophomore Class Councils for the Passport to your Career Success event that was held on Nov. 12. The 300 first and second year students who attended toured the Towers Multipurpose Room for treats and tips.

The first stop was internships. Each student was given a key chain featuring common qualities that all employers are looking for regardless of the industry. At the second stop, students were asked to build the perfect resume. Students were given a tutorial on how to find internships by their major on DuqConnection at the third stop. Nicole Feldhues, Director of Career Services was at the final stop to answer questions and offer advice to the students.

Throughout November, students who utilized Career Services events, walk-in hours or met with their career counselors were entered to win $25 gift cards for Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. One grand prize winner won a $100 Visa gift card!
