International Student Organization Collaborations

ISO works in collaboration with other organizations on campus and provides assistance for their various events. On September 6, 2012, ISO hosted their largest ever WELCOME BACK PARTY. ISO has worked hard to create a reputation for its diverse events and themes.

Continent Week, October 15 – October 18, 2012, will feature an African Theme entitled “It’s Time for Africa!” The week will include events hosted by Ebony Women, International Students Organization, and the Black Student Union. The week’s activities will culminate with Continent Night, an evening collaboration by the Caribbean Students Association, International Student Organization, and the Union of African Students. For a complete schedule of the week’s activities, please visit Campus Link.

The events are as follows:

Tuesday, October 16
A Juba Dance Celebration
Hosted by: International Students Organization
Location: Union Ballroom
Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Description: A Juba is a dance that was brought over from Africa and used by the African slaves for a multitude of purposes, including communication, celebration, and worship. The Juba has progressed from its purest form to more modernly recognizable dances such as tap dancing and step dancing. The dance will be led by various dance professionals (tap dances, steppers, etc) and drummers. However, this is not a performance. The audience will be encouraged to participate, as the Juba is meant to be inclusive of everyone.

Wednesday, October 17
Soul Cabaret
Hosted by: Black Student Union
Location: Africa Room
Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Description: The Soul Cabaret will be a night filled with fun including singing, poetry, spoken word, and dance. The cabaret will be a formal affair, so make sure to dress to impress! There will be both appetizers and light refreshments for our guests.
