During Mass on Sunday, March 11, the annual Officer Installation Ceremony was held. The new officers of the Student Government Association, SGA Senate, Duquesne Program Council, Commuter Council, Resident Hall Association, Class Councils and Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils were installed. A celebratory brunch followed, where former student leader and Duquesne alumnus, Susannah Hoang, Senior Compliance Lead for ALCOA, offered an inspirational message to our new student leaders. President Charles J. Dougherty has named Dr. James Swindal dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. Swindal, professor of philosophy, has served as acting dean since July 2011 while continuing his role as chair of the Department of Philosophy. Continue reading

Caitlyn Depp received the 2012 Newman Civic Fellow. This award honors student leaders committed to creating lasting change and is named for Dr. Frank Newman, one of Campus Compact’s founders, who was a tireless advocate for the role of higher education in preparing students for active and engaged citizenship.

“It’s Your Time: Capture The Moment!” has been selected as the theme for Duquesne University’s 2012 Orientation. A year-long effort, the Orientation staff is preparing for Orientation Week, Aug. 22-26. Summer mailing responses will be done online.
Last year’s Orientation program received two awards for Outstanding Use of Theme and Outstanding Novelty Item at the 34th annual National Orientation Directors Association Conference.
This year, instead of planning separate class-sponsored parent weekends, the Division of Student Life, in collaboration with Academic Affairs, will host Duquesne’s first Family Weekend on October 19-21! Continue reading
