The Summer Company Announces 2011 Season

The Summer Company at Duquesne University, which focuses on quality productions of classical and soon-to-be-classic plays in the company of friends, will stage three noted plays during its 2011 season.

All performances begin at 8 p.m. in the Peter Mills Theater of Rockwell Hall.

June 2-4 and June 9-11
The season begins with Look Homeward Angel by Ketti Frings, based on the novel by Thomas Wolfe. Set in 1916, the story focuses on the Gant Family and their trials and tribulations while running “Dixieland,” the family’s run-down North Carolina boarding house. The director is Leah Cassella.

July 14-16 and July 21-23

Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco offers a fresh take on the classic absurdist play in which the inhabitants of a small, French town slowly turn into rhinoceroses. It directly reflects society’s need to conform rather than to stand alone. Jill Jeffery is the director.

Aug. 25-27 and Sept. 1-3

The company’s season closes with Edward Albee’s acclaimed Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which follows two couples through one tumultuous evening of angry words and painful revelations. T.J. Fernino will direct this seminal play of the 1960s.

Tickets: $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors.
