New Bike Racks Installed Throughout Campus

Bike riding is a healthy, environmentally friendly and inexpensive means of commuting. The Office of Facilities Management has acknowledged the growing popularity of biking by installing additional racks on campus.

While many bicycle racks can already be found across campus, facilities management is making a concerted effort to evaluate the situation and add more in centralized areas. Placing bicycle racks in areas that are under cover, which protects bicycles in inclement weather, is also a key consideration.

“It’s gratifying to see that the Duquesne administration, and the facilities management department in particular, are so supportive of the efforts to make the University more bike-friendly,” said Dr. Greg Barnhisel, associate professor of English and bicycle advocate. “We hope that more students, staff and faculty will take advantage of the new amenities provided by the University and the city and give bike commuting a try.”

The most recent bicycle rack installations can be found at Duquesne Square by the Forbes garage and at the exit of the Locust Street garage. Future plans are in the works to feature a bicycle garage by the new Des Places Living Learning Center.
