Office of Research Hall of Fame Inductees Honored

The Office of Research will induct two new members into the 2011 Hall of Fame class ceremony on Thursday, May 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Mellon Hall foyer.

In addition to recognizing faculty members whose research has garnered significant attention and funding, honorees each receive a set of personalized trading cards highlighting their academic accomplishments and grants. The Hall of Fame underscores the importance of outstanding achievement and honors those who have made substantial contributions in their respective fields.

The 2011 Hall of Fame inductees are:

Dr. David Seybert

Dr. David Seybert, dean and professor, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences

Seybert has served as the dean of the Bayer School since 2000. In the past decade, he has been awarded more than $1.8 million for his research in science education, diversity initiatives and support of research infrastructure. All of these initiatives reinforce the Bayer School’s mission.

 

Dr. Rick McCown

Dr. Rick McCown, professor, School of Education

McCown is a professor in the School of Education’s Department of Foundations and Leadership and currently serves as director of the Professional Doctorate in Education Leadership. He has published eight books focused on the teaching-learning process in schools as well as numerous journal articles, technical reports, curriculum resources and teaching manuals. McCown was awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.  He has obtained more than $920,000 in seven years. His most recent research focuses on the teaching-learning process in higher education.
