Dr. Mark Haas, associate professor of political science, presented a talk on the effects of global population aging on U.S. power and security at the U.S. Naval War College, Providence, R.I., on May 24. Haas also authored a chapter in the book Political Demography: How Population Changes Are Reshaping International Security and National Politics, which examines the impact of demographic changes on international security.

Dr. Kent Moors, scholar in residence at the Institute for Energy and the Environment and professor of political science, conducted workshops on Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Energy Companies: Risk Management and Avoidance for senior management at PEMEX, the Mexican national oil company, on June 4 through 6. He also advised PEMEX on the development of new major shale gas findings. On June 8, he will present Foreign Interest in Shale Plays and its Impact on the OCTG Market at the third annual Platts SBB Shale Play Tubulars Conference in Pittsburgh. Moors also will advise law firms on changes in Russian import/export regulations in Los Angeles on June 12 and 13.
