Student Organizations Collaborate, Host Continent Week

The International Student Organization (ISO), in collaboration with the Black Student Union, Ebony Women, the Caribbean Student Association and the Union of African Students, invites the campus community to celebrate the cultures and traditions of Africa during Continent Week, from Monday, Oct. 15, to Thursday, Oct. 18.

The following events are free and open to the public:

  • Many Faces of African Women, Monday, Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Union Ballroom
    Presented by Ebony Women, this event will showcase the women of Africa through clothing, jewelry, skin care and body care, and will highlight the roles of women in African culture from North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa and South Africa.
  • A Juba Dance Celebration, Tuesday, Oct. 16, 6 to 9 p.m., Union Ballroom
    Hosted by the International Student Organization, this event will be led by various dance professionals and drummers.
  • The Soul Cabaret, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 6 to 9 p.m., Africa Room
    This Black Student Union event will feature singing, poetry, the spoken word and dance. A formal affair, it will include appetizers and light refreshments.
  • Continent Night, Thursday, Oct. 18, 5:30 to 9 p.m., Union Ballroom
    The International Student Organization (ISO) will host this annual event, which will focus on the African culture. Participants will learn about the African people through authentic foods, dance and performances from west and east Africa. The ISO will accept cash donations at the event to benefit the Women for Women International organization.

Continent Week is co-sponsored by the University’s Offices of International Programs and Multicultural Affairs and the Duquesne Program Council.
