Provost Search Update

The University’s search for the new provost and vice president of academic affairs has been progressing well, according to the Rev. James McCloskey, C.S.Sp., vice president of mission and identity.

“A strong pool of 75 candidates applied for the position, representing a wide variety of academic and administrative backgrounds from both public and private universities,” said McCloskey, who is chairing the search committee.

Nine of the 75 candidates were nominated for the position, six of whom eventually applied as a result of the nomination. Following review of credentials and other submitted materials from the candidates, the search committee conducted telephone interviews with a number of applicants and determined a list of four finalists.

The finalists have been invited to visit for on-campus interviews. Each candidate will make a presentation at a forum open to all faculty members hosted by the Faculty Senate. Candidate credentials, along with dates and times for the faculty forums, are posted in DORI at www.duq.edu/provostcandidates.

It is customary for a candidate seeking a senior leadership position to address a pre-determined topic at some point during the on-campus visit. Faculty and staff are invited to submit suggestions of topics or questions to be addressed by the candidates through the comment form in DORI.

“The search committee was truly grateful to receive recommendations and comments at the beginning of the search—and welcomes input again,” said McCloskey.
