Former White House Counsel John Dean to Keynote 61st Law Alumni Dinner

John Dean, former White House Counsel during the Nixon Administration, will be the special guest at Duquesne’s 61st annual Law Alumni Reunion Dinner on Friday, April 19, in the Power Center Ballroom. Dean will discuss Watergate—40 Years Later and also will participate in a book signing for guests.

Co-hosted by the School of Law and its Law Alumni Association, the reunion dinner will include a special awards presentation during which three individuals will be honored and recognized. More than 300 guests are expected to attend.

Duquesne law alumni Angeline C. Straka, a 1980 graduate, and David B. White, a 1982 graduate, will each be presented with a Distinguished Alumni Award. Alumnus Kathryn M. Kenyon, who graduated in 1998, will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award and retiring Duquesne Law Professor Raymond Sekula, a 1965 graduate, will be recognized for his 45 years of service to the School of Law.

During his decades as a full-time faculty member at the School of Law, Sekula has taught generations of law students courses in evidence, conflict of laws, taxation, corporations, agency and public employment law. He served as associate dean for 11 years and oversaw curricular changes and the development of the school’s 3-3 program and new international and clinical initiatives.

Sekula, who first began at the law school in 1968, also held a number of professional roles during his years at Duquesne, including appointments to the Pennsylvania Local Government Commission, Pennsylvania Disciplinary Hearing Board and Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners. He also served as a consultant to three Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices.
