James J. Byrne Award Bestowed on MBA Student

The James J. Byrne Award, named for the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business Executive in Residence and the former executive director of The Beard Institute, has been awarded for the third year.

Paul Caswell of Export, area vice president of sales for Avnet Services Inc., is the 2013 recipient of the James J. Byrne Award for Responsible Leadership. Caswell was selected from part-time MBA students at Duquesne for his commitment to contribute to business and society, and his academic performance. The honor includes a $4,000 award and commemorative plaque.

Community service, excellent citizenship and leadership are important considerations for this award, which mirrors the characteristics of Byrne, who served on the board of directors for Lennox International for 22 years as well as three other publically traded companies.

Byrne joined Duquesne in 2007. The award was established by the John F. Donahue School of Business and Lennox International to recognize Byrne’s decades of leadership with Lennox and contributions to the advancement of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business.

Keynote speaker for the event was Todd M. Bluedorn, chairman and chief executive officer of Lennox.
