Faculty & Staff Spotlight

Dr. John Pollock, associate professor of biology in the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Jelena Janjic, assistant professor of pharmaceutics in the Mylan School of Pharmacy, served as chairs for the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine Annual Retreat session on chronic pain and neuroinflammation.  At the March 10 retreat at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, the two also presented as co-directors of the University’s Chronic Pain Research Consortium. Janjic, founder of the consortium, spoke on Theranostic Pain Nanomedicine: Entry to the New Era of Inflammatory Pain Research? Pollock delivered Ouch, Let Me See Where it Hurts: Acute to Chronic Pain Transition in Neuroinflammatory Pain of Chronic Constriction Injury.

Dr. Alan W. Seadler, who holds the Edward V. Fritzky Chair in Biotechnology Leadership, served as one of seven members of Pennsylvania Bio’s selection committee for its 2013 Scientific Achievement Award. The selection committee members evaluated all nominees for the award, to be presented today to a scientist in the Pennsylvania bioscience community who has demonstrated outstanding achievement by advancing scientific knowledge, innovation and/or patient care.
