Rice on the Road Ends with Closing Dialogue

The University community is invited to attend the final Rice on the Road event of the year, a closing dialogue, on Tuesday, April 15, in the Power Center Ballroom.

The conversation, which will take place from noon to 2 p.m., will feature panelists from this year’s excursions—Human Trafficking in Pittsburgh, Looking in the Mirror of Racial Consciousness: The Culture of White Racism and Black Self-Determination, Fracking: Understanding its Local Impact and Exploring Community Trauma—participating in a “flipped” conversation. Instead of fielding questions from the audience, panelists will pose thought-provoking questions to the audience.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the closing dialogue, regardless of whether they attended the other Rice on the Road excursions.

“It’s important to note that people do not need to have attended our excursions in order to find the conversation intelligible and fruitful,” said Darlene Weaver, director of the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. “Community partners from our excursions have been invited to serve as panelists. They will ask questions to the audience to inspire thought on how the University and the community can work together to understand and address social justice issues.”

The Rice on the Road closing dialogue is free to attend and open to the public. A buffet lunch will be served. For more information, or to register, contact the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition by calling 412.396.1595.
