Campus Smoking Policy Now Prohibits Use of Electronic Smoking Devices

In an ongoing effort to promote a healthy environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors, the University has updated its campus-wide smoking policy to include a ban on all tobacco-based smoking products and electronic smoking devices (e-cigarettes).

The policy—The Administrative Policy (TAP) No. 25—helps to minimize health risks for the Duquesne community by prohibiting smoking in all University buildings and within 25 feet of all building entrances and air intake vents.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, although e-cigarettes only simulate tobacco smoking by producing an aerosol that resembles smoke, they still produce potentially harmful chemicals.

As a means of assisting smokers who may be interested in quitting the habit, the University offers tobacco-cessation resources and programs through the Wellness in Motion initiative and the Center for Pharmacy Care.
