2014 United Way Campaign Goal Announced

Duquesne has officially launched its 2014 United Way campaign and has announced its goal to raise $105,000 to assist local vulnerable populations.

The fundraising goal—which is $20,000 more than last year’s target—was announced on Sept. 18 at an informational kickoff breakfast for campaign team members who have volunteered to educate and coordinate donors from their departments, schools and offices.

Nicole Feldhues, director of career services and chair of this year’s campaign, noted the 2013 campaign raised nearly $105,000, surpassing its goal of $85,000. Feldhues, who describes the United Way campaign as an opportunity for employees to continue Duquesne’s strong tradition of supporting its community, said she has no doubt that the generosity of the campus community will once again prevail.

“Through the years, we have seen Duquesne rise to the occasion time and time again to meet, if not exceed, our United Way goals,” said Feldhues. “But it’s important to note that it is more than just about hosting events and raising money—it’s about improving lives.”

To increase faculty and staff awareness and support for the needs of the United Way, several fun and informative events will be held within the coming weeks including a Chuck Wagon BBQ sponsored by the Department of Public Safety on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and a campus-wide United Way luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

To facilitate contributions, employees can conveniently giving through payroll deduction, make a one-time pledge or volunteer their time and expertise to support the campaign. Participants can give to the United Way impact fund or designate donations by selecting specific charities.
