Faculty & Staff Spotlight

Dr. Mark Haas, professor of political science, presented Population Aging and the U.S.-Japanese Alliance on Oct. 9 at The Foreign Policy and Security Implications of Global Aging for the Future of Japan-U.S. Relations, a conference co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Tokyo.

Dr. Andrew Simpson, assistant professor of history, has been accepted into the fall class of the City of Pittsburgh’s Mayor’s Civic Leadership Academy. The academy offers a 10-week course that encourages city residents to become more informed, effective and inspired community leaders by learning about their local government.

Tom White, University archivist and adjunct instructor of history, will present Ghosts and Legends of Western Pennsylvania on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the downtown branch of Carnegie Library located at 612 Smithfield St. The free lecture will explore the history and cultural meaning behind some of our region’s supernatural legends.
