McConaha Named PPA’s Preceptor of the Year

Dr. Jamie McConaha, assistant professor of pharmacy practice in the Mylan School of Pharmacy, has been named the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association’s (PPA) 2014 Preceptor of the Year.

Dr. Jamie McConaha

The Preceptor of the Year is nominated by a PPA student member and recognizes a preceptor who goes above and beyond in their training and leadership for their students. In her nomination, students cited qualities that they’ve seen in McConaha as an educator that makes her deserving of this honor, including serving as a role model to her students; always expressing her professional, yet warm and welcoming personality; and being an encouraging voice guiding pharmacy students to become better clinicians and motivating them to be progressive members of the pharmacy profession.

McConaha was presented with the award at the PPA’s 2014 annual conference on Sept. 20.

A 2007 graduate of the Mylan School of Pharmacy, McConaha serves as the faculty preceptor for advanced pharmacy practice experience student pharmacists, as well as Duquesne’s community pharmacy practice residents and academic and teaching fellows. She is also the residency program director of the Duquesne University/Giant Eagle pharmacy community practice residency program. McConaha is the immediate past president of the Allegheny County Pharmacists Association and is currently completing her second consecutive term on the Board of the PPA.

Founded in 1878, the PPA is a professional membership organization of more than 2,300 pharmacists and pharmacy students across Pennsylvania. As the leading voice of pharmacy in Pennsylvania, it promotes the profession through advocacy, education, and communication to enhance patient care and public health.
