Center for Green Industries to Launch Green Business Certificate Series

Duquesne’s Center for Green Industries and Sustainable Business Growth is launching a new certificate series to help local small business owners learn how to make their companies more “green,” helping both the environment and their bottom lines.

Sessions for the Green Business Certificate Series will run from 9 a.m. to noon on three consecutive Wednesdays— May 27, June 3 and June 10—and will focus on green business strategies, green market essentials and financing green growth, respectively. Business owners must attend two of the three courses to earn the center’s Sustainable Business Certificate.

The series is intended to help small businesses grow their profits, shrink their footprints and attract new business.

“The certificate validates a business person’s or entrepreneur’s commitment to learning about sustainability and how it can be financially, socially and environmentally beneficial,” said Dr. Mary McKinney, center director. “Small business owners need to realize that today’s consumers are environmentally aware and appreciate the efforts of business owners to be more environmentally friendly. That effort can pay off for the business person in a number of ways.”

The sessions will be held in Room 505 of Rockwell Hall. The cost is $30 each or $75 for all three. A light breakfast will be included.
