Dr. Greg Barnhisel, chair of the English department, will give a reading as part of the Heinz History Center’s revived free Saturday book reading series on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Barnhisel, author of Cold War Modernists: Art, Literature, and American Cultural Diplomacy and James Laughlin, New Directions, and the Remaking of Ezra Pound, will participate in the reading and discussion focused on Pittsburgher and noted publisher James Laughlin from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the history center’s Library and Archives Reading Room.

Dr. Holly Mayer, associate professor of history, will give the opening presentation at the Fort Pitt Museum’s Women’s History Seminar on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. Mayer, author of Belonging to the Army: Camp Followers and Community during the American Revolution, will discuss Women in the Revolution: Soldiering at Home and Camp. She’ll share how women’s actions during the War for Independence contributed to social and political changes.

John Rago, professor of law, was recognized on July 28 at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) graduation ceremony, where he was named an “Honoured Friend” of LIPA by Sir Paul McCartney, who co-founded the institute. Rago has served as LIPA’s pro-bono nonprofit attorney in the U.S. for more than 23 years.
