Doughertys Presented with Holy Family Institute’s 2016 Spirit of Family Award

The Holy Family Institute recently presented its 2016 Spirit of Family Award to President Charles J. Dougherty and his wife, the Honorable Sandra L. Dougherty, during an April 16 event to benefit the institute.

Dougherty served a three-year term as chair of the Holy Family Foundation Board of Trustees from 2012-2015. During the event, Peoples Chief Executive Officer Morgan O’Brien—who is the new chair of the foundation board—presented the award to the Doughertys.

In addition, the Doughertys were surprised with a special papal blessing from Pope Francis presented by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

The Most Rev. David A. Zubik, D.D., bishop of Pittsburgh, also spoke at the award ceremony and thanked the Doughertys for their contributions to the Holy Family Institute, Duquesne University and the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Since its founding in 1900, the Holy Family Institute has focused on developing and providing a variety of programs to help children and families in their communities. Today, the institute offers services that include “educating behaviorally challenged children; counseling and helping families to function as a healthy unit in their homes; and preparing youth and young adults for a future through workforce development” among others.
