Dr. John Mitcham, assistant professor of history, recently published his first book, Race and Imperial Defence in the British World, 1870-1914 (Cambridge University Press). This the first comprehensive account of the cultural and racial origins of the imperial security partnerships among Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Dr. Andrew Simpson, assistant professor of history and director of undergraduate research in history, recently participated in a presentation at the National Council on Public History and Society for History in the Federal Government’s annual meeting, held in Baltimore from March 16 to 18. Simpson discussed NASA’s partnership with the Indian Health Service in the early 1970s. Simpson also published an article in the Feb. 5 Journal of Urban History, titled We Will Gladly Join You in Partnership in Harrisburg or We Will See You in Court, relating Pittsburgh’s evolution of nonprofits and payment in lieu of taxes.
