Grants Received

Funds totaling $37,200 were received by the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES), the Mylan School of Pharmacy, the School of Education, the School of Law, and the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

  • Dr. Jennifer Aitken, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, BSNES, $5,000, from the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society and a private donation, for the Project Seed Program, which enables high school students to work in chemistry labs at Duquesne under faculty direction. This brings the total award amount to $212,661.
  • Dr. Angelo J. Greco, adjunct professor, Mylan School of Pharmacy, $2,500, a Faculty Scholars Program grant from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation, for Identifying Opportunities for Pharmacogenomics (PGx) Testing to Improve the Safe and Effective Use of Medications for Patients Across a Regional Chain Community Pharmacy. Research team members are Dr. Khalid Kamal, associate professor of pharmacy administration, and Dr. Robert Maher, adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy practice.
  • Dr. Rachel Ayieko, assistant professor in mathematics education, and Dr. Gibbs Kanyongo, associate professor of educational statistics, School of Education, $6,000, Loogman Faculty Research Grant, for The Influence of Teacher Quality on Sixth Grade Students’ Mathematics Competency: A Case Study of Kenya and Zimbabwe.
  • Dr. Tsegaye Beru, associate director of faculty research and outreach services, Center for Legal Information, and Dr. Kirk Junker, international programs coordinator, both in the School of Law, $6,000 Loogman Faculty Research Grant for the project Ethiopian Constitutional and Customary Law Research Project.
  • John Lane, director of theater arts, $17,700, from the PNC Charitable Trust/McKinney Charitable Foundation, for the 2016 STAGES Summer Camp, a four-week program engaging youth from high-risk and/or low-income communities as performers, writers and technicians in theater arts, learning from University students, alumni and faculty.
