FlexTech Classrooms Snag People’s Choice Award at UBTech 2016

The University’s design of its FlexTech classrooms recently beat out 24 competitors to earn Duquesne a prestigious 2016 Harman Innovation Award at the annual UBTech Conference.

The Harman awards honor innovative use and best practices of audio-visual and IT technology at colleges and universities under five separate categories.

Duquesne’s award proposal was submitted by Lauren Turin, manager of Duquesne’s Office of Classroom Technologies (formerly the Media Services Center), and Todd Hughes, senior classroom technologist, for consideration under the Active Learning Space award classification. This category recognizes projects featuring active, hands-on learning space that involve technology implemented to “make the space work for all learners.”

Winners in the five categories were announced at the UBTech Conference, which is the annual higher ed technology conference hosted by University Business magazine. All 25 award finalists from the five categories were in contention for the People’s Choice Award.

Conference attendees voted on their choice, and Duquesne was selected as the winner. “It’s an honor to be recognized by others in this field for our innovative approach to active learning spaces,” said Turin. “We are proud of our economically designed, esthetically pleasing FlexTech classrooms.”

The UBTech Conference was held June 6-8 in Las Vegas, Nev.

“The award program is a highlight of our UBTech conference, where higher ed technology leaders converge to learn about innovation and best practices in their field,” said J.D. Solomon, editorial director of University Business.
