New Students Receive Warm Welcome to the Bluff during FAST 2016

Last week, new Duquesne students and their families spent time on campus as part of Duquesne’s annual Freshman Advisement Summer Transition (FAST) program.

FAST is an optional program that provides an opportunity for freshmen and transfer students to begin their Duquesne experience prior to starting classes this fall.

“Adjusting to college life can be overwhelming for some, so we’re proud to offer FAST to help ease the transition,” said Adam Wasilko, director of freshmen development and special services. “This year’s count of 3,000 attendees is the highest ever for FAST, and it was great to see so many students excited about coming to Duquesne.”

Students enrolled in each of Duquesne’s eight schools of study met with academic advisors, took campus tours and learned more about student support services. Also, 62 staff volunteers from across all of the University’s divisions were on hand to meet with students to help them with paperwork and answer any questions that they had about topics including financial aid, housing, class scheduling and upcoming orientation.

During FAST, Duquesne President Ken Gormley welcomed the new students during an assembly on July 14 in the Union. “I think that you’re going to find that this is a special place,” said Gormley. “The staff has worked really hard for FAST, and I hope that you and your family found Duquesne to be the kind of place that will be helpful and comfortable, as you spend your next four years here.”
