Ken Gormley Officially Inaugurated as Duquesne’s 13th President

More than 2,000 faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, dignitaries and guests turned out for the Sept. 22 Inauguration of President Ken Gormley.

Hundreds of Duquesne students lined Academic Walk to watch approximately 400 faculty, staff and dignitaries—including Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik, D.D., University Board Chairman Marie Milie Jones and Gormley—process to the Palumbo Center for the Inauguration.

During the ceremony, remarks were made by numerous guests, including Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto; Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; and Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Mike Stack, among others.

In addition, the ceremony included musical interludes featuring performances by Joe Negri and Friends, the Duquesne University Wind Ensemble and Voices of Spirit, students from the Mary Pappert School of Music and the Duquesne University Jazz Ensemble.

A special video about Duquesne University that was developed and narrated by Gormley was screened, followed by Gormley’s Inauguration Address.

As part of the ceremony, Gormley presented retired, Emeritus University President Dr. Charles J. Dougherty with a special emeritus medallion.

Immediately following the Inauguration ceremony, Gormley spoke at a student Pep Rally on Rooney Field before attending the Inauguration Gala in the Union.

Below is a sneak peek sampling of the photos taken at Inauguration. Next week’s issue of the Duquesne University Times will include information about where to find a full collection of Inauguration photos.
