New Procedure In Place for All-Employee Email Requests

The University recognizes that needs arise to inform Duquesne employees about issues and various on-campus activities. To manage and prioritize the intense volume of such requests, all-employee emails will now be managed by the Office of Marketing and Communications (formerly the Office of Public Affairs).

Please note the following:

  • Requests will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis (requests are not guaranteed approval).
  • The Office of Marketing and Communications will coordinate with the Office of the President, the Cabinet and the requesting school/department as necessary based upon the content of the request.
  • If it is determined that the content should be disseminated using another method, the Office of Marketing and Communications will discuss alternatives with the requesting department.
  • Submit general requests using www.duq.edu/email-request two weeks before the proposed dissemination date.
  • For unexpected time-sensitive issues, submit the form with the relevant details and call 412.396.6049 to alert the Marketing and Communications team.

The Duquesne University Official Communication email account is generally reserved for notices of institutional importance affecting a large number of people such as the following:

  • Messages from the administration
  • Major campus-wide events (e.g., Mass of the Holy Spirit, Matriculation, Founders Week, Homecoming, Commencement)
  • Health and safety issues (e.g., crime alerts, flu shots, police trainings)
  • Operational issues (e.g., water main breaks, power outages, technology problems, parking permit renewals, open enrollment for benefits).

Due to the large number of events that occur on campus every day, notices about most events will be posted in the Duquesne University Times and/or on the DU Daily website. To stay up to date, faculty and staff are encouraged to read both.

It is important to note that the above examples are for sample purposes only; there is a high volume of requests on numerous topics that will be managed based upon specific circumstances.
