Film Series’ Final Screening Contemplates What It Means to be Human

The 10th annual Human Rights Film Series will come to a close next week with a screening of Human, a documentary featuring a collection of stories and images focusing on what it means to be human.

Human, will be screened on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of College Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Directed by French filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Human shares accounts of everyday people and the struggles they’ve faced. Eyewitnesses to the Rwandan genocide, Syrian refugees, survivors of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge, United States Army veterans and others are anonymously interviewed and filmed using a similar close up shot to emphasize that Human is one story told through many voices.

Although the previous screenings in this year’s film series featured a guest speaker after the film was shown, audience members attending the screening of Human will be asked to leave in silence and contemplate the film.

The Human Rights Film Series, which this year featured the theme For the Sake of Humanity, is presented by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. For more information, call 412.396.6415.
