‘Schubert on the Bluff’ Season Ends with Music for Four Hands at One Piano

The Mary Pappert School of Music will host the conclusion of season two of its Schubert on the Bluff series this weekend with Concert VIII: Piano Duet I (Grand Duo), featuring rarely performed music for piano duet played by four hands at one piano.

The concert will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall of the music school. Series artistic director and pianist David Allen Wehr will be joined by pianist Benjamin Binder, pianist Cynthia Raim, soprano Sari Gruber and Zachary Smith on French horn.

The concert’s repertoire will include favorite works by Franz Schubert and American classical composer Aaron Copland, including:

  • Rondo on A Major for Piano Duet, D. 951
  • Lebenssturme (Life’s Storms) for Piano Duet, D. 947
  • Auf dem Strom (By the Stream), D. 943
  • Danzon Cubano for Two Pianos
  • Grand Duo in C Major for Piano Duet, D. 182.

Wehr and Gruber will conduct the pre-concert discussion at 2:30 p.m.
