Digital Humanities Series Continues with Panels and Pedagogy Workshop

The Digital Humanities in the 21st Century series continues with a two-day event that features panel presentations from Duquesne and visiting scholars who will focus on digital humanities and academic projects, followed by a workshop on designing projects that incorporate digital humanities into the classroom.

Panel presentations will be held on Monday, March 27, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Africa Room, Union.

Panels include:

  • Digital Dickens Notes: Form and Formation – Dr. Anna Gibson, assistant professor of English in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
  • Distant Reading the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography – Dr. Christopher Warren, associate professor of literary and cultural studies at Carnegie Mellon University
  • Digital Humanities and Visual Culture: ‘Mina Loy, Navigating the Avant-Garde’ – Dr. Suzanne Churchill, professor of English at Davidson College; Dr. Susan Rosenbaum, associate professor of English at the University of Georgia; and Dr. Linda Kinnahan, professor of English in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

Churchill and Rosenbaum will lead the workshop, Digital Humanities Scholarship & Pedagogy: Designing Sustainable Projects for You & Your Students on Tuesday, March 28, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Berger Gallery in College Hall. This workshop will explore collaborative models for involving students in digital humanities research. Churchill and Rosenbaum will discuss the design and applications of a successful, sustainable digital project from their own classrooms. Attendees will participate in “gamestorming” activities to generate designs for their own digital projects.

Digital Humanities in the 21st Century is sponsored by the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, in conjunction with the English department and the Center for Womens’ and Gender Studies.
