Grants Received

Funds totaling $125,275 were recently received by the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

  • Dr. Jennifer Aitken, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, BSNES, $5,250, from the American Chemical Society, for the Project SEED Program, which provides chemistry lab experience to economically disadvantaged high school students.
  • Small Business Development Center, a $4,000 subaward from the University of Pennsylvania, from the U.S. Small Business Administration FAST funding. The award will support the Pennsylvania Innovation Partnership Program, which helps early-stage technology companies in Pennsylvania secure federal funding opportunities. Dr. Mary McKinney, director of the SBDC, will administer the award.
  • Dr. Jan Janecka, assistant professor of biological sciences, BSNES, $116,025, from the National Science Foundation, for Collaborative Research: A Phylogeny Mammalian Evolutionary History Based on Paleocene Taxa: Determining the Impact of the K-Pg Extinction on Mammalian Evolutionary History. The project is in collaboration with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, among other institutions.
