FAST Program Helps New Students Kick Off College Experience Early

Last month, new Duquesne students and their families—more than 3,000 visitors total —spent time on campus as part of the annual Freshman Advisement Summer Transition (FAST) program.

FAST is an optional program for freshmen and transfer students to begin their Duquesne experience prior to starting classes.

“FAST is important because it helps incoming students see that they made the right decision in choosing Duquesne,” said Adam Wasilko, director of freshmen development and disability services. “We show students and their families that our entire University is here to support them all throughout their college experience.”

During this year’s FAST Program, which ran from, July 11 to 14, more than 1,130 new students who are enrolled in Duquesne’s biomedical engineering, business, education, health sciences, natural and environmental sciences, liberal arts, music, nursing and pharmacy programs met with academic advisors and took campus tours.

The students also learned more about Duquesne’s academic support and auxiliary services such as dining, banking and bookstore features.

More than 60 Duquesne staff volunteers were involved in this year’s FAST Lab, during which they helped 600 students complete important required pre-Orientation paperwork, including health insurance coverage, loan applications and work study employment forms.
