Draft of the University’s Next Strategic Plan is Available to View

For several years, the University has been engaged in developing a strategic plan to shape the next phase of its development. As early as 2014, the Division of Academic Affairs began work on a planning document of its own, but it was about one year ago that President Ken Gormley launched an intensive effort to create a comprehensive, campus-wide blueprint for Duquesne’s future.

Over the course of 12 months, that effort has involved scores of individuals from all areas of the campus and resulted in many drafts of the plan itself. A near-final version of the plan, Re-Imagining Duquesne’s Spiritan Legacy for a New Era, Strategic Plan 2018-2023, is available by visiting www.duq.edu/strategicplan.

While the Duquesne University Board of Directors will not formally vote on adoption of the plan until their meeting on Friday, Oct. 13, they have already reviewed several previous drafts; further changes at this point, if any, will be very minor.

Like most strategic plans, Re-Imagining Duquesne’s Spiritan Legacy for a New Era articulates the institutional goals at a high level and includes a commitment to treating strategic planning as an ongoing and open-ended process.

The next challenge is to implement the plan in a way that is explicit and pragmatic, and also flexible and creative. A recent meeting that included both members of the President’s Cabinet and the deans of the schools and the McAnulty College began to address our response to that challenge.
