Funds totaling $62,294 were recently received by the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES) and the School of Pharmacy.

  • Dr. John Stolz, professor of environmental microbiology, BSNES, $48,000, from the Heinz Endowments, for Well Water Quality in Areas Surrounding Deep Injection Wells in Western Pennsylvania.
  • Colton Ames and Nickolas Walker, students in the Janecka Genomics Laboratory, BSNES, $2,000, from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, for The RoarPlex—A Novel Tetranucleotide Microsatellite and Sex-ID Panel for Accurate Individual Identification of Felids and Development of the Field Isolation and Amplification of DNA Assay (FIA-DNA) Kit. Dr. Jan Janecka, assistant professor of biological sciences, will oversee the projects.
  • Dr. Rehana Leak, associate professor of pharmacology, School of Pharmacy, $12,294, from the National Institutes of Health, passed through the University of Pittsburgh, for Molecular Therapies to Promote White Matter Restoration After Traumatic Brain Injury.
