Local Fallen Soldier to be Honored at Annual Run for Ryan

The ninth annual Run for Ryan, a campus-wide 5K honoring the life of Marine Sgt. Ryan H. Lane of Castle Shannon, will be held this Saturday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. beginning at the Duquesne Union.

Sgt. Ryan H. Lane

Lane was killed in action in Afghanistan in July 2009 on his second tour of duty. Army 1st Lt. Joseph Vitti and Marine 1st Lt. Chris Cavanaugh, both former Duquesne students, launched the Run for Ryan after hearing of Lane’s sacrifice, to ensure that he would be remembered.

Registration can be completed online or on race day at the starting line. The $25 entry fee includes a T-shirt, bib and timing chip. Race day packets will be available for pick up Friday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or before the race starting at 8 a.m. on the second floor of the Union.

The Run for Ryan is open to the public and facilitated by ROTC cadets and midshipmen and Duquesne students. Proceeds from the 5K benefit a scholarship fund at Duquesne for student veterans in need of financial assistance.
