Projects featured in this year’s symposium—sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Office of Research—covered a variety of topics, including ecotourism’s effects on species, urban renewal in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and how animated films may use spatial biases to manipulate viewers’ emotions.

A new feature of this year’s symposium was a video competition, where students conveyed their research through three-minute videos. Designed to help students concisely communicate their research, the videos played during the poster session. Outstanding research projects received monetary awards from various schools and organizations. See the list of 2018 award winners.
