Pittsburgh Teens Take Center Stage For Summer Theater Workshop

Teens in the Greater Pittsburgh area are invited to participate in the third annual STAGES (Student Theater Arts Guiding Engagement and Success) Summer Theater Camp, sponsored by the Duquesne Theater Arts Department and the Red Masquers.

Three high school students work with lighting in the theater. The camp, which is open to students in grades 7 through 12, will be held on Monday, July 9, through Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Genesius Theater. The cost is $300 and includes daily lunch.

The Red Masquers will lead the students in workshops and exercises focused on various aspects of theater including acting, playwriting, sound, lights, make-up and costumes. Students will conceive, write, direct and perform an original production.

The camp was made possible by a $17,341 grant from the McKinney Charitable Foundation through the PNC Charitable Trusts Grant Review Committee.

Students pose on stage in costumes. The goal of the camp is to make theater arts more accessible to students who may not otherwise have access to theater arts education in their schools and communities. In obtaining this education, students will learn skills in collaboration, communication, time management and problem solving, all while experiencing life on a college campus.

Opportunities for scholarships and reduced tuition are available. For more information and to register, visit www.duq.edu/summertheatercamp.
