Run for Ryan

The annual Run for Ryan is a student-run campus 5K that honors the life of fallen United States Marine Sgt. Ryan Lane of Castle Shannon, PA. Ryan was killed on his second deployment in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan in July of 2009 while serving with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Division. Upon hearing of Ryan’s death, former Duquesne students 1st Lieutenant Joseph Vitti, USA, and 1st Lieutenant Chris Cavanagh, USMC, decided that this Marine should never be forgotten. The run encircles the campus and all proceeds benefit an endowed fund in Ryan’s name, awarded to student veterans in need of financial assistance.

This year’s run, the 6th annual Run for Ryan, will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. with race day registration opening at 8 a.m. Registration information can be found at
