Employers today have high expectations of students. By the time students reach their senior year and are applying for full-time jobs, employers are looking for the total package – strong academics, leadership experience and internships (preferably more than one!)
For these reasons, Career Services has embarked on an ambitious strategic plan to double the number of internship opportunities for students in 2014-15.
New efforts include increased outreach to employers, alumni, and parents to consider hiring Duquesne interns. We will also be broadening our geographical reach beyond Pittsburgh to focus on metropolitan areas with high concentrations of Duquesne students and alumni.
We hope to increase internships across academic disciplines but with a special emphasis on growing opportunities in the sciences and liberal arts.
Career Services is here to prepare students to be successful in their internship search and provides a variety of internship services, resources and programs to do so. A great starting point for students is registering with our online job management system, DuqConnection at duq.experience.com to begin their search for internship listings. Students should also prepare a resume, have it reviewed by Career Services and upload it to DuqConnection so that they can apply for opportunities.
Every semester, Career Services hosts job fairs so that students can meet face to face with employers, the majority of which have internships available.
If students have questions about the internship search, we encourage them to make a personal visit to the Career Services Center in our Rockwell Hall Main Office or Union Satellite Office.
