It is that time of the year again! Themed The Greatest Show on Earth this year, Greek Week begins on Sunday, April 12 with a kick-off BBQ, Greek Games and an evening Mass. The entire week is packed with sporting events, philanthropy initiatives, a leadership speaker, an awards banquet, the infamous Greek Sing and more (please see full schedule of events below). Greek 101
On Feb. 1, 2015, approximately 250 new members in the Greek community came together for our Greek 101 event. This is an event that is held every semester especially for the new members. Greek 101 is focused on introducing the new members to what it means to be Greek from the simplest things like where the office is located or how to find forms on CampusLink, to the most important things like how to identify hazing and how to report such incidences. Joining a sorority is a great way to get involved on campus, as well as meet many new people. Begin your experience by coming to the Union Ballroom on Jan. 8 at 9 p.m. for Meet the Sororities. There is no commitment obligation. This event is designed to allow all women the chance to meet the Greeks and see what each chapter is all about. Sorority recruitment orientation takes place on Jan. 12 at 9 p.m., and then recruitment will take place from Jan. 14-18. Continue reading
Fraternity Recruitment
Interested in joining a fraternity at Duquesne? Come out and Meet the Greeks at our event on Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. You will have the chance to meet members of all 11 chapters, including Alpha Delta, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Alpha Phi Delta, Deta Chi, Gamma Phi Local, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Nu, Sigma Tau Gamma and Tau Kappa Epsilon. Schedules for rush events can be picked up at the event. There is no commitment needed to attend the event.

Alcohol Awareness Week 2014
Alcohol Awareness week 2014 was once again a week dedicated to sharing information about the risks associated with illegal and excessive alcohol use for Duquesne students of any age. The week included a variety of activities to illustrate to students how the illegal and/or excessive alcohol use can negatively impact them in legal, social, career, clinical, health, interpersonal and other ways. Various activities were planned to raise awareness in a fun and interactive way, to help students understand the “real vs. perceived” social norms of alcohol use in society and on campuses, and to provide strategies to reduce the risks and to learn refusal skills. National Fraternity Honors Duquesne Undergrads and Alumni
It was almost a sweep. Brothers of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity have long been active and influential on Duquesne’s campus. This summer, their own national fraternity recognized their efforts. On Monday March 17, Duquesne’s Delta Zeta sorority held their annual Big Man On Campus Philanthropy event in the Student Union Ballroom. Representatives from all Greek organizations on campus were invited to participate in the event which the sisters of Delta Zeta describe as a “male beauty pageant.” The sisters donated all funds to the Speech and Hearing Clinic on Duquesne’s campus as, speech and hearing pathology is their designated Philanthropy. Sorority recruitment has come and gone, and we are more excited than ever to welcome 214 new members to our Panhellenic community! This year’s formal recruitment was beyond successful thanks to the Office of Greek Life, the Panhellenic Council and all of the amazing women who came out to join Greek Life. Each day, Thursday through Sunday morning, women will have a chance to visit the chapters and see what each sorority at Duquesne has to offer. Sigma Nu White Rose Ball
In early November, the brothers of the Sigma Nu Fraternity held their 7th Annual White Rose Ball. This is a philanthropy event benefiting the American Gold Star Mothers, which is an organization of women who have lost a child to the service of our country. This year $7,500 was raised, bringing the total donated to the mothers to $58,000.
Delta Zeta Donates to Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic
The Duquesne chapter of the Delta Zeta sorority recently presented the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic with a $1,000 donation as part of its philanthropy efforts. Chapter members presented a check to Dr. Mikael D.Z. Kimelman, associate professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, on October 23.

Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA)
Hazing Awareness Week included a Mass in the Duquesne Chapel sponsored by GAMMA on September 23 at 9 p.m., a Rita’s Sale in the PNC Atrium on September 25 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. to benefit Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, and a Greek trivia game and hazing panel involving Greeks and student athletes. Fall 2012 Meet the Greeks
The annual fall event, Meet the Greeks, was held Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in the Union Ballroom. Organized by the Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils, this event allowed both freshman and upperclassmen to get a glimpse of what Greek Life is all about at Duquesne.
