SBDC Conference Makes Sense of Technology Trends for Small Businesses

Staying ahead of the technology curve is a challenge for many companies, and it can be especially daunting for small businesses.

To help regional small businesses take control of new technologies and, thereby, improve the bottom line, Duquesne’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host its sixth annual Pennsylvania Business Technology Conference on Thursday, Nov. 17. The all-day event will feature breakout workshops, a panel discussion, a luncheon keynote address and live demonstrations.

“Our goal is to demystify the technology available to small businesses,” said Christine Hughes, training manager at the SBDC. “There’s so much to choose from, and our presenters really are experts who can help attendees find the right tools for their particular businesses.”

Luncheon keynote speaker David Yunghans of Constant Contact will talk about using technology such as email and social media to engage current customers, find new customers and build real relationships with brand advocates.

Breakout workshops cover a variety of topics, from building an e-commerce business to using mobile applications to developing successful email campaigns.

The day will include hands-on learning, too. At a technology showcase, attendees can get a real-time look at Google Docs, set up social media accounts and download the latest apps to help manage their businesses.

“There’s something for everyone,” Hughes said. “Any small business owner who wants to use technology to make life easier will come away from the conference with really helpful strategies for doing so.”

Full-day registration is $119, which includes continental breakfast, admission to the full schedule of events and lunch. For details and to register, visit www.duq.edu/sbdc or call 412.396.1633.
