Free Guitar and Bass Celebration Slated at Duquesne

The Mary Pappert School of Music will host the Guitar and Bass Celebration, a day-long program of technique and performance classes for guitar and bass musicians of all skill levels and ages, on Friday, July 27. This event, which is free to registered attendees, will also include performances by music school faculty, the guitar ensemble-in-residence, Catch 22, and other guest artists.

Classes will be taught by School of Music faculty; clinicians Troy Centofanto, director of music admissions for the music school, and Robert Marcello from the Roland Corporation; and guest percussionist Billy Kuhn. Novice and experienced tracks are available in jazz, guitar, bass, classical/acoustic and contemporary/rock.

In addition to classes and performances, the Carnegie Science Center will display guitars from their latest exhibit, GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked the World as part of the celebration.

The celebration will conclude with a musical performance and a drawing for prizes, including a Godin Freeway Classic electric guitar, a Martin D-1E acoustic guitar and a Fender Standard Precision bass. The drawing is open to all attendees who have participated in the full day of events.

The Guitar and Bass Celebration is dedicated to the memory of Bill Schultz, the late chief executive officer of Fender Musical Instruments and former Duquesne student, in honor of his commitment to guitar and bass education.

Event sponsors include Fender Musical Instruments, Fishman, Godin Guitars, Martin Guitars, Roland USA, Alfred Music Publishing, the Carnegie Science Center, MCG Jazz and the Pittsburgh Jazz Society.
