The Summer Company Celebrates 20th Season
The Summer Company, now in its 20th season, will take the stage this July and August with productions of A Slight Case of Murder and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
“The Summer Company offers a chance for advanced theater students to work with local professional actors and directors,” said John Lane, director of theater arts and one of The Summer Company’s founders. “The company prepares students about to enter the workforce by providing them with an opportunity to see how a professional company works.”
Co-written by Damon Runyon and Howard Lindsay, A Slight Case of Murder will be staged Thursday, July 18, through Saturday, July 20, and Thursday, July 25, through Saturday, July 27. In the story, ex-racketeer Remy Marko has barely settled into his Saratoga vacation home when he is surprised by some unwanted guests. Not wanting to ruin his new “legit” social status, he opens his home and bottles of his infamous Marko Beer to neighbors and gambling buddies while trying to move the unwanted guests to other homes. Jill Jeffrey directs the production.
The renowned Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be held from Thursday, Aug. 22, through Saturday, Aug. 24, and from Thursday, Aug. 29 through Saturday, Aug. 31. One of Williams’ best-known plays, this classic drama explores the relationships in a southern family, social mores, greed and mendacity. Iconic characters such as Brick, Maggie, Big Daddy and Big Mama fight to hold onto a family plantation that is the best 28,000 acres this side of the Valley Nile. The production is directed by Justin Sines, and stars Curt Wootton, Cassandra Hough, Lane and Susan McGregor-Laine.
All shows will be held at 8 p.m. in the Peter Mills Theater of Rockwell Hall. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made through the Gemini Theatre Company box office by calling 412.243.6464.
