University Launches 2013 United Way Campaign

The University’s United Way committee launched its annual campaign and announced its 2013 goals at the Champion’s Breakfast on Sept. 13. The event served to energize those employees who have volunteered to educate and encourage donors from their departments, schools and offices on campus.

This year’s campaign goals for the University include raising $85,000 through 35 percent participation. However, Campaign Chair Dr. Evan Stoddard, associate dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, is aiming for 100 percent participation.

Stoddard answered questions regarding the United Way’s Impact Fund and showed this special video demonstrating how campaign donors can simultaneously support Duquesne’s mission of serving God by serving students and participate in the Spiritan characteristics of social justice and service to the poor.

“The United Way, as an organization, provides a valuable service to every one of us,” Stoddard said. “We all can find causes among the United Way’s options that we will want to support—whether agencies in our immediate community, one of Duquesne’s own United Way agencies (such as the City Music Center, the Nurse-Managed Wellness Centers and the Center for Pharmacy Care) or the United Way’s carefully managed Impact Fund. I ask every member of the Duquesne family to make the commitment to donate through the United Way this year.”

Giving to the campaign is simple. Visit the University’s United Way website and click on “Donate Online.” Gifts can be made through payroll deduction or as a one-time donation through payroll deduction, check or credit card. Donors who make a contribution by Friday, Oct. 4, will be entered into a drawing for special prizes.

The campaign’s progress will be updated regularly on its website, which will also publish a calendar of events designed to support the 2013 campaign.
