Duquesne University’s Red Ring Launches New Menu and Year-Round Patio, Freshens Opens Its Doors

The Red Ring Bar and Grille celebrated its grand re-opening with the launch of a brand new menu on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Open to the general public and the campus community with street access to Forbes Ave., The Red Ring provides a delicious beginning or ending to a fun-filled evening for those attending events at the nearby Consol Energy Center.

The Red Ring seats more than 150 guests for indoor table service/bar seating as well as al fresco dining for lunch and dinner on the new outdoor patio. Created by Parkhurst Dining—Duquesne’s new dining services partner—the patio adds a lively and enjoyable dimension to dining and gets guests out into the fresh, open air to savor offerings from the extensive menu of appetizers, soups, salads, hot sandwiches and entrees. Side-wall panels and outdoor heaters allow guests to experience the patio year-round, even during inclement weather.

A create-your-own burger offering—each made with a half-pound of hand-pressed, fresh ground meat—complements the pub-like menu, which also includes turkey burgers, grilled or hand-breaded chicken breast sandwiches and spicy black bean burgers. Happy Hour runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and features half-off select appetizers, such as buffalo chicken dip or spicy chicken wings, and drink specials, including $2 16 oz. domestic drafts and $2.50 16 oz. import drafts. Visit The Red Ring’s online menus for more mouthwatering favorites.

Parkhurst also opened a Freshens, the nation’s largest frozen yogurt and smoothie company, on Nov. 20 next door to The Red Ring. Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Freshens offerings include:

  • hand-crafted, savory or sweet crepes
  • custom-order salads served in fresh baked crispy bowls
  • all-natural fruit juice and yogurt blended smoothies, including fat free options
  • Fro-Yo blasts, shakes and parfaits made from 30 flavors of Freshens own frozen yogurt, including tart and no-sugar-added flavors.

Grand-opening attendees enjoyed free smoothies and frozen yogurt samples as well as a complimentary appetizer at the The Red Ring.
