Panelists to Discuss Trayvon Martin Case—Was Justice Served?

The Black Law Students Association will host three guest panelists for the discussion The Trayvon Martin Case: Was Justice Served? on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Room 204 of the School of Law.

The panelists will examine the legal and social aspects of the landmark case as well as the impact of the controversial “Stand Your Ground” law on society and the future of the law.

Allegheny County Public Defender Elliot Howsie will serve as moderator for the discussion, which will feature the following panelists:

• Leonard Birdsong, professor of law at Barry University, who is a former assistant United States attorney for both the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• A.J. Bellido de Luna, professor and managing director of the clinical law program at the University of Maryland School of Law, who was a lieutenant with the Howard County Maryland Department of Police.
• Tracey McCants-Lewis, assistant professor and assistant director of clinical legal education Duquesne’s School of Law, who teaches courses for the University’s Civil Rights Clinic.
