Dean’s Visit is First of Faculty Exchanges with Japanese University

An upcoming visit to Japan by Mylan School of Pharmacy Dean Dr. J. Douglas Bricker will serve as the first faculty exchange between Duquesne and Daiichi University of Pharmacy of Fukuoka.

Dr. J. Douglas Bricker

The two universities signed an agreement in April 2013, which includes both faculty and student exchanges as well as research collaborations and additional academic activities.

Bricker, who will be in Fukuoka from Saturday, Nov. 1 through Saturday, Nov. 8, will present a lecture to students there about the role of the pharmacist in clinical toxicology, including a review of acetaminophen overdoses. In addition, Bricker will address faculty about research opportunities with Duquesne’s School of Pharmacy and will talk with the local pharmacists’ association there about the changing role of pharmacists in the United States.

The School of Pharmacy has five other collaborative agreements with schools of pharmacy worldwide, including one with Japan’s Kobe Gakuin University. This marks Bricker’s fourth trip to Japan to offer instruction and advise faculty and pharmacists there about pharmacy education in the United States.

“It has been a rewarding experience each and every time I go to Japan,” said Bricker. “It is professionally rewarding that we can fulfill our plan to foster global pharmacy education. The impact that the School of Pharmacy has made with collaborative research and student education is attributed to the hard work of our faculty who are committed to this strategic initiative.”
