Spotlight to Shine on Red Masquers’ 38th Annual ‘Premieres’

The talents of students, alumni and faculty will be in the spotlight when the Red Masquers presents the 38th annual Premieres at 8 p.m. from Wednesday, Dec. 3, through Saturday, Dec. 6, in Rockwell Hall’s Peter Mills Auditorium.

Premieres features the world premiere of four one-act plays written by Duquesne students, alumni and faculty that are directed, produced and performed entirely by students.

This year’s original one-act performances will be:

  • The Square Root of -1
Written by student Dan Watson and directed by Tyler Jennings, The Square Root of -1 is the story of a dying mathematician who struggles to solve an impossible theorem before his death with the help of his imaginary friends.
  • Blue Flowers
Written by alumnus Justin Sines and directed by student Abby Blackmon, Blue Flowers is about the rebuilding of a mother and son’s relationship before, during and after one of life’s hardest moments, the death of a loved one.
  • Making the Grade
Written by Dr. Charles Welsh, assistant professor of biological sciences, and directed by student Taylor Brink, Making the Grade features a student that challenges a bad grade and raises a debate in the biology department.
  • The Professional Cuddler
Written by graduate Vince Lamperski and directed by student Jeff Johnston, The Professional Cuddler looks at how a woman who makes her living as a “professional cuddler” shakes up a young man’s life.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Admission is free to those with a Duquesne University ID.
